Chandrayaan 2 landing date is finally here. Now gettting ready to perform soft landing on moon on 7 September at 1.40 am IST. ISRO is on a mission unlike any before. On September 6, spacecraft landing module (a composite of the lunar lander Vikram, and rover Pragyan) separated & travel individually. The engines will be shut off well before the spacecraft touches the moon’s surface.

This Moon mission will make India the fourth nation to perform soft-landing on the lunar surface and also became first nation to touch down the South Pole region of the Moon first ever in history. From the 30 km moon orbit Chandrayaan 2 landing has 15-minute window of “terror”. This 15-minute flight is one that ISRO has never experienced before.

Just before landing, the Vikram lander will be operated only by the moon’s gravity and not from spacecraft’s thrusters. This trick will help the lander to avoid mini-plume of lunar dust from covering the lander and save the solar panels from any damage.
